Black Smoker Expedition
Very hot sulfur-rich waters coming from volcanic vents in the ocean floor crystallize into chimneys called black smokers. Scientists overcame many challenges to bring a few up, so they could study their formation and the odd things living there.
Secchi Disc (Transparency Disk)
An interactive exercise that demonstrates how to measure the clarity of the water and light penetration.

Extreme 2002: Mission to the Abyss
Chronicles the journey of a research team led by University of Delaware marine scientist Craig Cary that set sail from San Diego, California. Includes features on seafloor geology and ocean creatures.
The Carlsberg Ridge Cruise
Learn about the RRS Charles Darwin ship that was set sailing to go study the undersea ridge located between eastern Africa and the Seychelle Islands. Purpose of the trip is study the magma rising up from beneath the ocean floor. Page includes geology background of the area, onboard equipment, an introduction to the science team, and photo gallery.
